For 2013 Mr Abu Suyeb Tanzam, donated all the takings from the evening and once again handed over a cheque of £600 to the Mayor of Fareham’s charity. He also donated £300 to Linvoy Primus's Charity Faith and Football. Mr Suyeb had learnt about the good work that Linvoy and his colleagues do for youngsters in the surrounding areas, and wanted to make a contribution.

Both the Mayor and Linvoy were at The Gandhi on the evening and were grateful to The Gandhi for their generosity. Linvoy said “it was a great surprise for us when we received a phone call from Abu, offering to make a donation to the charity. Without the generosity of people, we wouldn't be able to continue and every penny helps"!

‘These are the things I’m really passionate about. A small contribution to a charity makes a difference. It inspires me and makes me feel better when I try and do something for the community. I am proud of my customers’ help.’

Mr Tanzam formally launched his fundraising evening eight years ago and has raised thousands of pounds since then.

The event raised money for Cancer Research UK, which received £1,000 and the remaining £650 went to two charities chosen by Mayor of Fareham Mike Ford, who also attended the event.

Cllr Ford said: ‘Abu sets aside a day every year and donates all the takings to the mayor’s chosen charities, and this year he donated money to Cancer Research UK as well. It was fantastic. A brilliant event.’ Cllr Ford picked The Dave Wellman Cancer Trust and The Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service to split the £650 raised from the takeaway’s fundraiser.
